Copper is becoming one of the ASX’s most closely watched commodities — but can new supply keep pace with growing demand?

Electrification, renewable energy, grid upgrades, electric vehicles and data infrastructure are all supporting the longer-term copper demand story. At the same time, new supply can take years to develop, with permitting, development costs and declining ore grades creating ongoing challenges.

The outlook remains balanced, with global growth, Chinese demand, currency movements, project ex*****on and broader commodity sentiment all capable of influencing copper prices.

St George Mining (ASX: SGQ) has broken key support — is the bullish story losing momentum?

After surging hundreds of per cent on excitement around its Araxá niobium and rare earths project in Brazil, SGQ is now facing intense selling pressure.

The stock has broken below the key $0.085 support level, closing around $0.078 on heavy volume. With RSI near 28, the stock is deeply oversold—but oversold does not necessarily mean the downtrend is over.

While Araxá continues to offer significant long-term potential, investors are now weighing resource confidence, capital raisings, dilution and the funding requirements of developing a pre-revenue critical minerals project.

The next key catalysts include further drilling, resource upgrades, metallurgical testing, the Araxá scoping study and potential strategic partnerships.

Can SGQ reclaim broken support, or is this the beginning of a deeper correction?
