After Tuesday’s cash rate hike to 4.35%, a number of lenders have started to pass the rate increase in full to their customers.

Here are some of the increases that will take effect:
• Westpac: effective 21 November
• ANZ: effective 17 November
• NAB: effective 17 November
• Commonwealth Bank: effective 17 November

RBA holds cash rate at 4.10%! Phew.

All eyes were on the new governor Michele Bullock today as she made her first big call on the direction of interest rates.

Inflation is still high, leading to warnings of the possibility of another rate increase by the end of the year.

The RBA has announced today they will keep the cash rate on hold for the third consecutive month. This is a massive relief for many mortgage holders.

The Board took the decision to hold interest rates steady this month to provide additional time to assess the effects of the 12 interest rate rises delivered since May 2022. Outgoing governor Philip Lowe did not discount another rate rise if required.

From the 1st July 2023: NSW Government changes to the First Home Buyers Assistance scheme, the threshold for stamp duty exceptions for first home buyers will be lifted from $650,000 to $800,000 and stamp duty concessions from $800,000 to $1 million.

That means a first home buyer purchasing a property at $800,000 will save up to $31,090 under the changes.

The legislation will also improve the integrity and targeting of first home buyer assistance programs, increasing the requirement to live in the home from 6 months to 12 months.

The NSW Government will introduce legislation into NSW Parliament this week to create its simpler, fairer stamp duty concession scheme ensuring 84% or 5 out of every 6 of future first home buyers will pay no tax or a reduced rate, starting from Saturday 1 July 2023.

***RBA Cash Rate Increase 0.25%***

As suspected, the RBA has increased the cash rate by a further 0.25%.

This is now the 10th consecutive RBA increase and brings the cash rate to 3.60%.

Lenders will start to announce their own interest rate increases in the coming days.
