Consumer sentiment fell 4.7% to 80.4 in October, down from 84.4 in September.

What's behind it:
→ Fuel: average pump prices are back above $2.30 a litre, up nearly 25% since the start of the year
→ Interest rates: the RBA's latest move took the cash rate to 4.6%, the highest since 2011
→ Expectations: just over 80% of those surveyed after the RBA decision expect mortgage rates to rise over the next 12 months
