Do you know the difference between GST and SST?
While they may sound similar, they operate through very different mechanisms.

Recently, our CEO, Jay K Shong, led a GST vs SST and Australian Payroll training session at INFINITY8 Reserve Mid Valley Southkey, Johor, providing an opportunity to step away from the usual office environment, learn, collaborate and gain fresh perspectives.

The session explored the key differences between GST and SST, including their impact on:
- businesses
- compliance requirements
- day-to-day operations
- consumers through the pricing of goods and services.

We also covered Australian payroll fundamentals, strengthening our understanding of payroll requirements and enhancing our ability to support clients operating across different jurisdictions.

Be honest, how many of us can confidently recall our company's core statements and values without looking them up?

At Affintive, we wanted to make our values simpler, more memorable and easier to apply in everyday situations.

In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, our team took part in a lacquer fan painting activity that brought our purpose to life which is, bringing clarity, care, and sound judgement to every number, for the clients we serve and the team we build it with.

Throughout the session, we naturally demonstrated our pillars that holds our purpose, by showcasing what it means to:
1. Think Like It's Ours
3. Remember AI Calculates, We Decide.
3. Flag It Before It's a Problem and
4. Lead With Kindness

From caring for our shared workspace and helping one another avoid paint mishaps to learning from a tutorial whilst creating our own unique designs, our values were reflected in each of our own unique fan.

What would change if we viewed every decision from our client's perspective?

Our recent corporate visit to Grant Thornton Malaysia Johor provided valuable insights into professional growth, client-centric thinking and the future of the accounting profession.

A key takeaway shared by the CEO of Grant Thornton Johor, Wen Tak Wong, was to not despise small things.

Additionally, Wen Tak Wong reminded us of the importance of continuous self-reflection by asking ourselves, "If I were the client, would I want myself as the advisor?" and evaluating our work from both the client's and professional's perspectives to make a difference in the value we deliver.

We also had the privilege of hearing from the Associate Director of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), Cheryl Quek, who highlighted ISCA's role in improving brand visibility for firms like us and providing valuable industry resources (such as their AI Fluency Programme) to support professionals in the evolving business landscape.

Experiences like these reinforce the importance of continuous learning, client-centric thinking, and embracing innovation.

While business objectives may bring the team together, the time we share outside of work allows us to connect on a more personal level.

Recently, Affintive went on a team-building trip to , giving everyone the chance to enjoy meaningful conversations and have plenty of laughter.

Every moment spent together, whether at the airport, in the hotel, or around the dining table, reinforced the collaborative and supportive culture we are proud of at Affintive.

Taking one step back to move a few steps forward reminded us that strong teamwork is built not only in the office, but beyond it as well.

What does a masquerade ball have in common with the accounting services we offer at Affintive? It is about revealing what lies beneath the surface.

A few nights ago, our team traded Xero dashboards for masks and evening wear as we attended a dinner in hosted by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).

It was a valuable evening of connection, conversation and shared perspective with professionals across the accounting community. Events like this remind us of the importance of networking to flourish and grow.

We truly appreciate the role of Malaysian Institute of Accountants in bringing the profession together and strengthening knowledge and standards across the industry.
