It can be tough to save 20% as a deposit. That’s where government schemes such as the 5% Deposit Scheme or Help to Buy come in.

Through the Help to Buy scheme, the government can contribute up to 40% of the purchase price on a new home, meaning if you are eligible, you could buy with as little as a 2% deposit.
