Following a surprise increase last month, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has once again decided to raise the official cash rate by 0.25% today.
The decision to increase the official cash rate to 4.10% is driven by the April Consumer Price Index, which rose from 6.3% to 6.8%, and concerns regarding the impact of the Fair Work Commission's announcement on Friday, which included a 5.75% boost to the minimum wage.
Several banks have already announced their intention to increase interest rates on variable loans shortly, and we anticipate other banks to do the same.
If you have a home, investment, or commercial loan, I strongly recommend reaching out to your local independent mortgage broker to conduct a health check on your loan, which is free of charge. This simple step could potentially save you thousands of dollars per year in interest payments.
