Why I started SMM101

It's honestly a bit of a funny story. I used to have a stable, work from home career I was genuinely happy in, great colleagues, a boss I love. On paper, I was okay. But things change, and after everything that's happened over the past few years, especially now that I'm turning 29 this October, I can finally say I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.

Me and my husband moved here from the Philippines in October 2024. Life in Narrogin looked pretty simple at first, errands, groceries, the usual. Then one day I visited a local cafe here and noticed something, they had social media, but they weren't posting consistently. I already loved their coffee, their food, the whole vibe of the place. I just saw the potential straight away.

So I offered to help with social media management, and that conversation is what started SMM101.

Now every time I go back for my usual coffee, the owners tell me stories that genuinely warm my heart. Someone drove all the way from Perth and stayed the night in a caravan here in Narrogin, just because she saw the cafe online. She wasn't even following the page. Others have come from as far as Lake Grace. Locals who've been regulars for years are now saying "hey, I saw you on social media" like they're meeting them for the first time.

That's when it clicked for me. This isn't just about growing a business, it's about helping people who work incredibly hard keep doing what they love, every single day. My goal for SMM101 has never just been to make money, though of course I do need to pay the bills. It's about wanting every single one of my clients to succeed.

I'm just really glad I didn't let fear win. If I had, none of this would exist.

I hear these lines almost every week from business owners who've been told this is just how it works. Post every day or you'll disappear. Go viral or don't bother. Be on every platform or you're behind. None of it holds up once you're actually running a business and not just chasing numbers.

What actually moves the needle is consistency without burnout, content that speaks to the right people, and a strategy that fits your business, not someone else's template.

Save this for the next time someone tells you to "just post more."
