In practice, what matters is the combination of your current balance and what will keep flowing in.

For employed couples, employer contributions can be a meaningful engine over time.

Add rental income from a property, and the fund may be able to service a loan without you making any personal contributions from your pocket each month, depending on the structure and the numbers.
