This month marks three years of Blue Rose Financial, and I wanted to share why the business exists and what the journey has really looked like.
In January 2022, my dad, who had been through more battles and triumphs than anyone I knew, took his own life. It was devastating, and it forced me to rethink what actually mattered.
My mum struggled deeply without him. Even with me, my brother and her grandkids around, it was overwhelming for her. I felt torn between supporting her and keeping up with my job.
With the support of my wife, we decided to start the business with one simple goal: earn enough to keep things going and give me the flexibility to be there for my mum.
Things started slowly, but there was just enough traction to keep moving.
Six months later, Mum was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that had already spread to her brain and liver. I spent every day at the hospital while trying to keep a new business alive and still be present for my kids. She passed away about three weeks later.
After some time grieving, we pushed forward. I refocused on the business and my family. We built momentum, formed great relationships with clients and referral partners, and hired an incredible credit analyst who helped us lift again.
During that period, we were fortunate enough to join the Shire Professional Connection and set up our office there ā something that gave the business stability and a sense of community we really needed at the time.
Then adversity struck again.
In May this year, I finally had the spinal fusion surgery Iād been delaying for years ā a 7ā8 hour operation, two tungsten steel rods, two weeks in hospital and a long recovery. It took a toll on me, my family and the business, and we definitely felt the slowdown that followed.
Despite that, in October we were recognised as a āFast Starter and Fast Brokerageā for 20%+ year-on-year growth in our early years. Not a major award, but a quiet reminder that even with all the setbacks, weāre still progressing.
In 2025, we also had the opportunity to sponsor the South West Rhinos baseball team; something small but meaningful, and a way for us to give back to a community that has supported us.
But the best part of all this hasnāt been the numbers or milestones.
Itās watching people buy their homes, seeing families start, helping business owners back themselves, supporting clients through big life decisions and having the real conversations about their goals and aspirations.
The last few years have been tough and far from linear, BUT Iām genuinely grateful. Grateful that I get to do this work, build something meaningful, and create something positive out of some really painful chapters.
Heading into year four, weāll keep focusing on what we do well, keep showing up for our clients and partners, and trust the process.
Thanks to everyone whoās been part of this journey so far.
Here are a few moments that shaped our journey over the past three years.
