Here’s the last of the Blackheart Sassafras a mate brought up for me from Tasmania. I love using the natural contrast in the grain to create the water effect! Timber with character like this is hard to find, so I’m grateful he went to the effort of sourcing and flying four pieces up to Canberra!

Big shoutout to the crew aboard HMAS Brisbane. Share this with someone you know who is serving or has served on HMAS Brisbane 🤙🏼⚓️

This one’s been on the back burner for a while!

Made from a very old piece of Huon Pine, with a timber inlaid 2nd Commando Regiment insignia — double diamonds in redgum and the commando stiletto and banner in QLD gidgee, carved by the very talented 🤝🏻

One slab, three different pieces!

Picked up this slab from here in Canberra.

I intended to only make one piece out of the slab as it was pretty mangled at first glance, but luckily I managed to make a couple of smaller pieces from the offcuts!

Which one is your favourite?

Here’s one that’s been bubbling away in the back of my head for months! Enjoy the process pics - I’ll try to include more of these in future posts.

About this piece: the client asked for a live edge Jarrah slab (not an easy find on the East Coast). After a few weeks of hunting, I came across , who had exactly what we needed.

Because of the width of the board, I then needed to buy a jig to drill the centre (yes.. definitely time to buy a CNC 😅).

Finally got around to finishing it off this week!
