The Tasmanian First Home Owner Grant is reducing from $30,000 to $20,000 from 1 July 2026.

Tasmanian parliament has passed laws giving first home buyers building or buying a new home in Tasmania a $20,000 grant from July 1.

The grant was due to drop from $30,000 to $10,000, but government figures show 314 approvals and 161 payments so far this financial year.

Treasurer Eric Abetz said the figure struck the right balance for buyers, the construction sector and budget pressures after industry calls for $50,000.

The grant runs until June 30 next year, while a separate stamp duty exemption for established homes up to $750,000 ends on June 30.
