Hi everyone, just thought I'd share this. I am doing the Cancer Councils March Charge fundraiser and for those who donate $5 or more go into the draw to win a 90x60cm canvas print of my Adelaide Oval lightning shot. Details below.

Hey SA Weather community my goal for the month of March is to walk 120km for the Cancer Council’s March Charge Fundraiser – a very worthy cause. (Trust me 120km worth of walking activities for an unfit weather geek is a challenge.)
You can help support me by donating to my challenge. For those who donate a minimum of $5 will go in the drawn to win a 90cmx60cm Canvas print of my lightning photo of Adelaide Oval (this is donated by me). So if you want the chance to help out a worthy cause and put yourself in with a chance to win a canvas print please head over to the link and help out with a donation. So I know you have donated be sure to write SA Weather in your motivational comment to me so I know your in the draw 😉 >> https://www.themarchcharge.com.au/fundraisers/jasonhywood/the-march-charge-walk-2019
No money will go to my hands at all, it will 100% go towards the March Charge fundraiser!!!
You can donate at anytime before or during March the winner will be drawn March 31st at 1900hrs.
Kind Regards Jason Hywood

"Every place is the right place, and every time is the right time"...but sometimes you need to make the effort to be in the right place at the right time like doing a 12 hour storm chase. Whilst it was frustrating for most of it, it did pay dividends in the end when I got to watch mother nature in action with some fellow storm chasers.

**Photography was my outlet**
For me photography is a liberating hobby, whether it's using your phone or DSLR you can get out there and take photos of just about everything and anything. The little and the big moments in life happen all the time around you whether it's family/friends or what mother nature has to offer. A photo is a historical representation of that moment that can be treasured forever enabling you to go back to look at it, unlock the memories and relive it all over again.
Why did I get in to photography!? I'm not entirely sure what made me pick up a camera and start snapping....all I know is it was an outlet for me!! I went through a very difficult period of my life for some years with depression. My wife/children, family members and friends were very supportive and also helped me during this time but I also needed an outlet, another positive outlet that would help take my mind off things rather than make things worse. This is where photographer came into the picture.
I honed my photography skills and furthered my passion for photography with help from the lovely people at the Port Adelaide Photography club, they helped me enjoy what photography had to offer and challenged me to get better at my craft which I am thankful for. It also gave me the opportunity to be involved as a photographer in two amazing annual events the Adelaide Zombie Walk and the Adelaide Credit Union Christmas Pageant...days that I will never forget.
As much as I tried I realised I was useless at portrait photography. So I needed a different subject. I have a love of weather so marrying up the two seemed the obvious choice to help me with my outlet. Sunny days, rainy days, stormy days it didn't matter, getting out amongst mother nature (without sounding like a tool) helped heal the soul.
I was lucky enough to get some work with photography but that came with stress of making sure I delivered what was required. I realised this was not for me, I cherished photography too much for it to be a stress in my life. It was my go too for de-stressing not adding more stress. So I discontinued that avenue. Instead I simply enjoyed doing it for the love of it.
I haven't got my DSLR camera out for quite sometime hence the lack of photos on here. Further commitments these days does have a lot to do with that as I don't have as much time, but I also think it's because I'm in a better place now and the outlet is no longer required. Yes things get tough from time to time but I'm better equip to deal with those situations now.
The future... I am looking forward to using photography once again this time as an enjoyable hobby rather than as an outlet.
Whether you are looking for something as an outlet or as an enjoyable hobby I can't recommend taking up photography. Join a club meet like minded people who will steer you in the right direction. You don't need a fancy DSLR, phones are amazing these days and produce stunning photos and people carry them every day.
Below is a collection of some of the weather photos taken during that period. I hope you enjoy them, I know I did taking them :) (be sure to view in 1080p, it looks better)

My love of weather and photography are probably most in sync when I'm chasing thunderstorms. Whether it's traveling around the Adelaide metro area or chasing on the open roads of SA there's nothing quite like seeing the storms up close. I have tried to capture the moments as best as I could but they will never compare to the experience of witnessing Mother Nature at her angry best.

The camera didn't get as much of a work out this year compared to last year, but still enjoyed getting out and snapping away. Thanks for the support throughout the year and looking forward to a fruitful year behind the lens next year.

9am start from Adelaide with the sat nav set for Keith in the Lower South East. Once on the plains on the other side of the Lofty Ranges there was blue skies all around......perfect to get that ground heated up for convective storms later on. By the time I had reached Keith towers were well and truely going up. It was at this point I met up with fellow chaser Rowland Beardsell. We headed further S/E toward Blanchtown and Bordertown where we where constantly surrounded by chunky dumping cells spitting out CG's both under, to the side and out front of the clouds. Some rally driving was required when one of the dirt roads became extremely slippery which a lot of fun. On the drive back we intercepted a ripper cell at Tailem Bend where I captured the bolt taking out a electricity transformer. I then headed back into Adelaide as the last heavy band for the day passed over. Well worth the drive!!
