EssilorLuxottica more than tripled sales of its Meta-powered AI glasses in 2025, signaling accelerating consumer demand for wearable technology.

The Ray-Ban maker sold over 7 million AI glasses last year, a sharp jump from the combined 2 million units sold across 2023 and 2024. The figures include smart glasses under both Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, with Oakleyโ€™s AI eyewear line debuting in June.

The success underscores growing momentum behind AI-integrated wearables. EssilorLuxottica has partnered with Meta since 2019, launching the first generation of smart glasses in 2021. However, it was the second-generation release in 2023 that drove broader adoption.

In September, the companies introduced a new Ray-Ban model featuring hand-gesture controls and neural interface technology, priced at $799 and equipped with a discreet in-lens display. Demand has been so strong in the U.S. that Meta delayed its planned international rollout to manage supply constraints.

According to reports, the companies are now discussing plans to double production to at least 20 million units by year-end, highlighting their long-term ambition to dominate the emerging AI eyewear segment.

With wearable AI devices gaining traction, smart glasses may be positioning themselves as the next major consumer tech platform.

Japan narrowly avoided a technical recession in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the economy expanding by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter. The rebound followed a 0.7% contraction in Q3, but fell short of economistsโ€™ expectations for a 0.4% increase.

On an annualized basis, GDP rose just 0.2%, well below the 1.6% forecast and a sharp slowdown from the prior quarterโ€™s decline. Compared to a year earlier, growth eased to 0.1% from 0.6%. Private consumption provided the main support, helping offset weaker exports and reduced public spending, according to data from Japanโ€™s Cabinet Office.

Markets reacted cautiously. The Nikkei 225 opened slightly higher, while the yen weakened to 153.06 against the dollar.

The Bank of Japan recently upgraded its growth outlook for fiscal 2025 and 2026, projecting moderate expansion supported by rising wages, stable inflation and government stimulus measures. Inflation slowed to 2.1% in January but has remained above the central bankโ€™s 2% target for 45 consecutive months.

Attention is now turning to Japanโ€™s economic diplomacy. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump as both countries work toward finalizing projects under a $550 billion bilateral investment pledge. Analysts suggest defense, industrial automation and shipbuilding could become key drivers of future growth.

With record fiscal spending planned and new trade initiatives underway, Japanโ€™s next economic chapter may hinge on how effectively policy momentum translates into real expansion.

Do you think Japanโ€™s recovery is sustainable, or is the risk of another slowdown still high? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Oil prices rose for a second consecutive day as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran overshadowed fresh data showing a sharp build in US crude inventories. Brent crude traded toward the $70-a-barrel mark after gaining nearly 1% in the previous session, while West Texas Intermediate hovered near $65.

Market sentiment remains driven largely by geopolitical developments. While US leadership has signaled a preference for a diplomatic resolution with Tehran, traders continue to factor in the risk of potential military escalation in the region. The presence of US naval forces and ongoing political rhetoric have kept a risk premium embedded in prices.

At the same time, supply-side data paints a more bearish picture. US crude inventories jumped by 8.5 million barrels last week, reaching the highest level since June, according to official figures. Major banks have also highlighted signs of a growing surplus, though some analysts argue that excess supply is building in regions less influential on global price benchmarks.

Brentโ€™s prompt spread remains in backwardation, indicating relatively tight near-term conditions despite broader concerns about a glut. Analysts suggest oil may remain rangebound unless tensions escalate significantly or a clear supply disruption emerges.

With oil balancing between geopolitical uncertainty and rising stockpiles, do you think Brent will break sustainably above $70, or are inventory builds signaling a pullback ahead? Share your outlook in the comments.

Gold edged lower after stronger-than-expected US jobs data reduced expectations of a near-term Federal Reserve rate cut. Payrolls posted their biggest gain in over a year, while unemployment fell unexpectedly โ€” signaling a resilient labor market.

Bullion dipped but continues to trade above $5,000 an ounce, recovering part of its recent sharp selloff after hitting a record high above $5,595 in late January. Traders are now pushing expectations for the next rate cut from June to July, pressuring non-yielding assets like gold.

Despite short-term volatility, major banks remain bullish, with some forecasting gold could reach $6,000 by year-end, citing geopolitical tensions and strong investment demand.

Silver also pulled back, extending its recent sharp swings amid ongoing supply deficit concerns.

Will gold hit a new record this year, or is momentum fading? Comment your prediction below.

Chinaโ€™s AI sector has surged over the past year, with companies like Alibabaโ€™s Qwen and startup DeepSeek gaining global traction through open-source models and real-world adoption. Major listings in Hong Kong and growing international partnerships show strong investor and market confidence.

Yet at a recent Beijing summit, leading AI executives cautioned that the performance gap with US firms may still be widening, citing limited access to advanced chips and capital constraints.

The race is intensifying โ€” but the lead remains contested.

Elon Musk has redirected SpaceXโ€™s long-term vision, prioritising the development of a self-sustaining city on the Moon instead of Mars. The shift, announced on X, comes as SpaceX moves closer to a highly anticipated IPO, with Musk arguing that a Moon city can be achieved in less than half the time required for Mars colonisation.

While Mars remains part of SpaceXโ€™s parallel plans, the Moon is now positioned as a faster, more practical path โ€” and a stronger narrative for investors focused on near- and mid-term returns. The pivot aligns with growing interest in commercial launches, Starlink expansion, satellite infrastructure, and the potential for orbital data centres.

With reports suggesting an IPO valuation discussion as high as $1.5 trillion and fundraising that could reach $50 billion, SpaceX is refining its story as it prepares for one of the largest public offerings in history.

The UAE has introduced its first road-rail ambulance โ€” a locally built innovation designed to operate both on highways and railway tracks. Developed by Naffco, the ambulance is engineered to deliver faster emergency medical access to remote desert areas where conventional vehicles struggle to reach.

The launch aligns with the rapid expansion of the UAEโ€“Saudi railway network, led by Etihad Railโ€™s 900-kilometre line connecting Ghuweifat to Fujairah. With passenger services set to link all seven emirates and the wider GCC Railway planned to connect all Gulf nations by 2030, the new rail-enabled ambulance strengthens regional emergency preparedness.

Built to American ambulance standards, the vehicle features a specialised rail gear system that lifts the tyres and allows seamless movement on tracks. Fully equipped with advanced life-saving medical technology, it ensures the same level of care as a standard ambulance โ€” even in the most challenging terrain.

This innovation marks a significant step forward in emergency healthcare, logistics, and cross-border response capabilities across the Gulf.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) continues to strengthen its position as the worldโ€™s busiest hub for international air travel, powered by sustained capacity growth, expanding airline networks, and operational resilience. New 2026 data shows DXB handled 62.4 million international seats in 2025, widening its lead over rivals such as London Heathrow and Istanbul.

According to OAG Aviation Worldwide, DXBโ€™s international capacity is 4% higher year-on-year and 16% above pre-pandemic levels, placing it more than 13 million seats ahead of its nearest competitor. With passenger volumes projected to reach 96 million in 2026 and cross 100 million by early 2027, Dubaiโ€™s global aviation influence continues to deepen.

In total capacity rankings, DXB is now the second busiest airport worldwide, closing in on Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL). Aviation analysts expect Dubai to overtake ATL within the next 3โ€“4 years, driven largely by the rapid expansion of Emirates and flydubai, strong tourism inflows, and Dubaiโ€™s strategic position linking Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Aviation already contributes nearly one-third of Dubaiโ€™s GDP, with record passenger flows fueling growth across tourism, hospitality, retail, and business mobility. Continued investment in technology, infrastructure, and future capacity โ€” including the upcoming Dubai World Central โ€” positions DXB for sustained growth well into the next decade.

Silver prices fell sharply on Thursday, with spot silver down 10.4% to $79.07 an ounce and March futures sliding more than 6% to $78.55/oz. The decline erased gains from a short-lived rebound and mirrored broader pressure across precious metals, fueled by a stronger U.S. dollar and uncertainty over Federal Reserve policy.

Analysts suggest the pullback is part of a normalization phase rather than a trend reversal, as demand from industrial and green energy sectors, including solar and electrification, continues to support silver in the medium term. Market participants remain cautious ahead of key central bank meetings in Europe and upcoming U.S. nonfarm payroll data, which has been postponed to February 11.

Question: Do you see silver recovering soon, or is this the start of a deeper correction? Share your thoughts below.
